Realising the dream
Realising the dream
Based on current successful social practices for infrastructure projects, we prioritise sustainable relations among stakeholders, bringing people together and building capacity to ensure successful partnerships.
Innovation is a central attribute of our community development model and it includes new ways of sharing and formulating values with communities, encouraging ownership of the new project. Our local teams engage local media leaders to help deliver our social strategy based on the following:
Raising awareness among stakeholders, potential community members and the wider public is essential for community acceptance of the project. We share our vision and knowhow through the most effective forms of local media (including social media) directed at our target communities and institutions and by providing a forum for engagement, to register interest and provide feedback.
Whilst needs will vary between communities, we anticipate that most will be grappling with challenges such as earning an income and providing for their families. We bring people and ideas together to cultivate community interaction and facilitate the generation of inclusive solutions, taking all social factors into consideration. This is key to the success of any project and will be especially important in the process of assessing and earmarking possible sites.
Communities are included in discussions as early as possible, during the R&D phase, to properly assess and determine appropriate urban planning, housing and infrastructure solutions. During the development and construction phases, we create avenues for involvement, employment opportunities and welcome input from our all members of our communities.
Experience with previous projects has shown that communities that are involved early in decision-making will be vested with pride and ownership of their project. This also promotes good self-governance. Prior to completion and occupation, we provide support and guidance to set up and document good governance principles, social regulations and community sanctions based on traditional practices, with the agreement and approval of community leaders and representatives.
